- Trapping. Birds that are indoors or birds that are not responding to deterrents may need to be live-trapped and physically removed from the area.
- Clean up and disposal. A professional should handle cleaning of bird droppings, as they can harbor numerous diseases. Methods of dropping removal include physical removal, power washing, HEPA vacuuming, and application of a bio-enzyme product to break down residual fecal matter.
Nuisance birds have been associated with many transmittable diseases, including: histoplasmosis, cryptococcosis, and salmonellosis to name a few. However, the most common problems associated with nuisance birds are the spread of parasites, fecal deposits, and noise. There are over 50 different types of ectoparasites that are associated with nuisance birds, and approximately two-thirds of them may be detrimental to the general health and well being of humans and domesticated animals. Once brought in by birds, these parasites can infest your property and bite humans.

Sparrows
Typically, sparrows are small, plump, brown-grey birds with short tails and stubby beaks. There are over 40 different species of sparrow. However, differences between the species are often subtle. Sparrows are physically similar to other seed eating birds, such as finches. Although some can be agricultural or structural pests, sparrows can be beneficial to people by consuming nuisance insects. However, once they have nested in your property, you should promptly contact a professional for their removal.
Pigeons
Pigeons are perhaps the most common nuisance bird in the Chicago area. Pigeons typically cause issues because of the mess they make. Starlings
The Common Starling, known as the European Starling, is a medium-sized bird with glossy black plumage, that is speckled with white some times during the year. The legs are pink and the bill is black in winter and yellow in summer. Large flocks that are common in this species can be beneficial to agriculture through consumption of invertebrate pests. However, starlings can also be pests when they feed on fruit and growing crops. In urban areas, starlings are a nuisance through the noise, mess, and parasites associated with their large roosts.
